10 billion dirham expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Center
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, today approved the AED 10 billion expansion plan for the Dubai Exhibition Center (DEC) at Expo City Dubai. Once completed, the DEC will become the largest indoor event and exhibition venue in the region. Part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, this development is an integral part of Expo City Dubai's vision to become a dynamic economic hub driven by global exhibitions and events.

This iconic venue will not only become the largest indoor exhibition and events destination in the region, but will also set new global standards for excellence in the industry. We are committed to cementing Dubai's position as a global leader in events and exhibitions and the best destination for major events."
He added: Our events provide platforms for connecting people, ideas and opportunities from all over the world. They provide an impetus for economic growth, boost tourism, and significantly contribute to the advancement of our national projects, strengthening Dubai's growing role as a global economic hub.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was briefed on the comprehensive plan of the Independent Election Commission in the presence of Mr. Mohammed Al Shaibani, Director General of the Dubai Ruling Court. Mr. Matar Al-Tair, Commissioner General of Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Welfare Pillar; His Excellency Hilal Saeed Al-Amari, Director General of Dubai World Trade Center (DWTCA); Mr. Dawood Al-Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality; and senior management of DWTC.
Three key phases
DEC's master plan outlines venue expansion in three key phases to meet the growing demand for large-scale venues. In Phase 1, which is due to be completed by 2026, the Dubai Exhibition Center will have 140,000 square meters of exhibition space, almost two and a half times the current capacity of 58,000 square meters.
Phase 2, expected to be completed by 2028, will expand the total exhibition space to nearly 160,000 square meters, along with improvements to supporting infrastructure, road networks and dedicated multi-storey parking. The final phase, which is expected to be completed by 2031, will increase the exhibition's total interior space to 180,000 square meters, comprising 26 halls on a 1.2 kilometer long interconnected level.
It accommodates one large event or up to 20 smaller events simultaneously. The final phase will include a hotel with more than 300 keys, retail stores, commercial offices and an industrial kitchen for fully integrated operations.
Once all development phases are complete, DEC will be 1.5 times larger than the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center (DICEC) and serve as the new home for major exhibitions. This expansion will enable Dubai to double the number of major events hosted annually, from around 300 today to more than 600 by 2033, thereby positioning the emirate as a leading center for international exhibitions and Strengthen business events.
The next-generation destination enhances Dubai's global events calendar across multiple sectors, including technology, healthcare, food and beverage, financial services, energy and real estate. It will also introduce platforms for greater global engagement in rapidly evolving fields such as media and entertainment, mobility, education, tourism and manufacturing.
In addition, DEC's master plan supports the creation of Dubai's new urban center, including Expo City Dubai, the UAE's first 15-minute city. the wider South Dubai community; and Al Maktoum International Airport.
