Dubai Police announces Ramadan cannon locations

In many Muslim nations, it is customary to fire cannons during Ramadan.

This event is seen by many as a significant component of their religious and cultural history. In the United Arab Emirates, firing cannons during Ramadan has been a tradition since the 1960s.

To signal the end of the fast, a bullet is fired from each cannon once a day. Because cannons could be heard up to 10 kilometers from their point of discharge, they were employed to signal the end of the day to people who were unable to hear the call to prayer.

The cannons will be placed in the following locations:

  • Burj Khalifa
  • Damac Hills
  • Expo City Dubai
  • Festival City
  • Hatta Guest House
  • Mirdif Downtown
  • Vida Creek Harbour

An additional moving ball will visit 13 different locations in the city.
