Dubai Police will soon send robotic dogs to help with high-risk missions.
More than 3,000 operations involving police K9s of different canine breeds, such as German Shepherds, Malinois, Labrador Retrievers, and Cocker Spaniels, have taken place thus far in 2023. Their involvement in operations in Libya and earthquake relief efforts in Turkey and Morocco were a couple of these missions.
But for now, in a sci-fi-like development, Dubai police are now studying robotic dogs as part of the force's assistance. As K9 units around the world are seen as key partners in crime prevention and apprehension, robotic dogs will play an important role in solving major crimes and assaults.
"Robotic dogs have not yet reached the level of a regular dog, but we are still researching and meeting with advanced companies about robotic dogs," stated Dubai Police Director Colonel Salah Al Mazrouei.
